What is a Smart City? If you try to really define it, you’ll hear and read a lot of different answers – it’s as much to do with something techy as it is to do with citizens. But what is sure that the Smart City is also what happens when technology and urban planning meet, the intersection between tech, the government and companies all working together to make life more efficient and livable in cities.
What is your city of dreams? – the question came to me at the conference.
Everyone dreams of a sustainable, intelligent, green and inclusive urban revolution.
…for me the answer is much more complex.
As one of the world’s leading event for cities, Smart City Expo World Congress provides a unique meeting point for the whole smart city ecosystem in every year. Corporate leaders, public representatives, entrepreneurs, experts and academic researchers from all around the globe come together to learn from each other, share experiences, talk about best practices and issues, and also open new paths for international collaboration.
Barcelona’s congress, which took place at Fira de Barcelona from November 19-21, is splitted into three sections:
The Expo and the Agora
A huge marketplace where altogether 1010 exhibitors, hundreds of global companies and organizations including startups, show the world their latest projects and engage with thousands of professional attendees. More than 24 000 visitor from 700+ city attended in the expo to share their knowledge to each other.
The Congress
A three-day program with 400+ international experts/speakers coming together to share insights, experiences and learn best practices from each other for a more sustainable urban world. This was a worldwide dialogue that shapes the next steps for urban development debate on the following essential topics: digital transformation, mobility, urban environment, governance and finance, and inclusive and sharing cities.
In this year the main dialogue was not only focused on the technological solutions but on creating livable cities and empower the collaboration between the citizens, the global companies and the city itself. Climate change and the development of mobility have played a key role in the conference.
