Digitalization of the Construction sector_part1 – using data-driven decision-making tools for road constructions

Urban development and transport planning are strongly interlinked. When building or renovating a road section, many factors are taken into account. These already familiar studies need to be provided with an effective new kind of help from an urban development perspective of the process with different data science tools that can be supported.

DATA – BASED DECISION SUPPORT

• Impact assessment of routes partially or entirely closed due to construction – of which development and road construction phases are more appropriate
• Traffic map (heat map) – support the planning and the construction process, what traffic jam it generates.
• When a new road is being built, the effect of the infrastructural connection of the new road on the surrounding road network, city, or localities it connects.
• Access time calculation – the impact of the road or railway line on access times, connections (network analysis)

OTHER DATA PROVISION AND DIGITIZATION ASPECTS

1. Supporting the technical and construction process with drone recordings (reports, data collection)
2. Creation of a KPI (Key Performance Index) system (in the planning and construction process) thus determining the basics of data provision, the installability of sensors
3. Data collection methodology – mapping opportunities:

• Data generated during workflows
• Material technology data
• Data from an environmental mechanism of action
• With the help of drone data (site management, material deposit) – technical inspection, continuous support of construction management

We can see that the possibilities are almost limitless! Using them, we can also save time and thus expense. By optimizing the process, the project can later be the basis for the subsequent development.
